Market People Awards 2018 - The London Insurance Market celebrates excellence with a Venetian extravaganza in the City of London

Over 170 professionals gathered together on 14th November 2018 at the prestigious One Moorgate Place for the annual Market People Awards, run and hosted by the London Market's popular thought-leadership and networking hub, London Market Forums (LMForums), in association with Market People Magazine. The Awards, now in their third year, have become a firm favourite with the insurance Market and this year saw the biggest ever attendance.

Roger Oldham, founder of LMForums and host of the fun filled evening commented "the Market People Awards are about recognising real professionals from the Lloyd's and London Insurance Market of all levels and job types who are are making an extra special contribution in their teams, companies or going that extra mile for their clients or the wider sector. Dedication on this level is what sets these people apart and helps makes the London Market an amazing place to work; our independent judges are always looking for these outstanding individuals."

2018 saw more nominations received than ever before. The judges identified 15 incredible winners from the underwriting, broking and supplier community, who all looked incredibly proud as they collected their trophies on the stage at the sparkling Venetian themed celebration. The evening also raised £5,632 from a live auction and prize draw for the remarkable Essex based charity, Kids Inspire, thanks to the kind generosity of the audience.

Winners this year included Dame Inga Beale for her outstanding contribution to the Market over the last 5 years in her role as CEO of Lloyd’s of London, Colin Bird, Chairman of Besso, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award, Teresa Bentley from the London Market Group for her work in the Diversity & Inclusion space and Katie Pycock of XL Catlin received the Young Person of the Year Award.

Receiving here award on stage, Dame Inga Beale, who has just stepped down as CEO of the world famous Lloyd's of London, commented about the importance of people in our industry and the dedication and hard work of the 52,000 people who work in the London Insurance Market. "You made this happen and you will continue to make this happen, good luck in the future" she told the audience. Colin Bird said "I'm extremely proud of this award and humbled by it - there's nothing you can do in this Market, or in fact in life, without the support of other people, so thank you to everybody, including my industry colleagues as well as my wife and family who are here tonight".

They support young people across Essex who are at an educational, social and/or economic disadvantage resulting from trauma or emerging mental health issues.
